Rye Rye

Do you remember the article I posted last week that listed some of the up-and-coming female artists of 2011?  Well I decided that I would start from the bottom and work my way up, so the first person I'm focusing on is Rye Rye, a new rapper.  Here's what the article had to say:

11. Rye Rye
Age: 20
Sounds like: Nicki Minaj's younger sister
Album: Go! Pop! Bang! was originally scheduled for release in 2009, but was shelved.  No release date has been set yet.
The Buzz: M.I.A.'s protege collaborated with Robyn on " Never Will Be Mine", and is currently traveling cross country with the Swedish singer and Katy Perry.

After listening to many of Rye Rye's songs I have to say that I am not all that impressed.  The article dubbed her "Nicki Minaj's younger sister" so I had incredibly high hopes for this new female, but I was underwhelmed.  Not only are her raps not all that intriguing, but she is also not all that great of a performer.  I see her more as being on the level of Lil' Mama (remember 'Lip Gloss'?).  She is just your average rapper and I truly don't see anything impressive about her.  I'm definitely going to keep tabs on Rye Rye, though, and I hope that I'll be able to give you a more positive review when her album finally drops.  Do check out her music though and judge her yourself.
