What a craptacular night the Top 12 was. There were only two or three great performances last night; all the rest were sub par. With all the great talent there is this year I had never thought a night like this would have happened. The flu, sickness, and lipstick massacres were all present Tuesday night. Totally not impressed this week.
Scotty McCreery
Out of my Top 4, Scotty was second best. Just like last week he was really interacting the audience and putting on a show. I feel like he is really an artist now, and he's now just trying to make it to the finale. Hopefully next week he can do something a little out of his comfort zone just so we can see some growth. Overall, Scotty was great!
Paul McDonald
Even though Paul was suffering from a cold, I still thought he did really well. I definitely did not hear what the judges were hearing last night. Yes, it wasn't as good as it normally was, but it was still a solid performance. Like I said last week, I really want to see him do a ballad next week. I'd like to see some diversity from Paul so that he can really show off his talent.
Thia Megia
Pocahontas! When I was a little kid Pocahontas used to be one of my favorite Disney movies. My favorite song was "Just Around the River Bend." Anyway, I thought Thia was okay. It definitely wasn't her best performance, and yes, it was another ballad, but I thought the judges ripping on her was a little excessive. I think what the problem was was that that song is a generational thing. To me and you that is one of those songs that were raised on. Everyone our age has seen Pocahontas, and it's ingrained in our brains. To the judges that's just another song from a kid's movie. Me and you could feel a connection with Thia because of our generation, but the judges had no connection. Thia should definitely do something upbeat next week if she wants to stay in the competition.
Lauren Alaina
She's back!!! This is the Lauren I love: rocker chick. Lately she's done some boring country songs, but she went back to her original style and she absolutely killed it. The fact that she had the flu made it even more amazing. If Lauren sticks with this for the rest of the competition I think she could go very far. Keep it up, Lauren!
Personally, I think either Naima Adedapo or Karen Rodriguez will go home tonight. They just weren't good at all last night. Bottom 3 will definitely be all female. What was up with that horrific performance from Casey Abrams? I have never liked Nirvana, but Casey was screeching the whole way through and the judges loved it. Ugh. I still don't like James Durbin, mainly because he's totally copying Adam Lambert, but also because he's nowhere as good as Adam and he screams in EVERY. SINGLE. SONG. Stop it already! Black Eyed Peas are performing their new single 'Just Can't Get Enough' so I'm very excited for that. Let's see what happens!
