Let St. Lucia Transport You to the Tropics

St. Lucia is a band I've recently fallen in love with thanks to my friend Mike from Oblivious Pop. Jean-Philip Grobler is a South African Brooklyn-based musician who started developing his sound in 2010 after a failed rock project, thus searching for influences in music that he loved such as Madonna and Fleetwood Mac. In 2012 he released his debut EP, and was eventually signed to Neon Gold Records with whom he just released his debut album When the Night. His song 'All Eyes On You' was used in both a Victoria's Secret ad and a Taco Bell ad already giving him some national exposure. Also, the song 'September' is featured on the video game FIFA '13 which has been notorious for launching artist's music careers. His album is quite addictive, and it's one of my favorite albums this year. What's cool about St. Lucia is that he takes classic pop music and adds a dreamy synth quality to it, as well as giving it a tropical twinge which mimics the name of the band. Upon first listen it isn't as powerful, but once you get immersed in the lush undertones and the '80s pop glamour of the album I guarantee you'll be hooked. Jean-Philip is a talented artist and he's one to keep an eye on in the coming years.
