'Opulence' marks her territory as the title comes from the legendary drag/ball documentary 'Paris Is Burning', cementing herself as a queer artist who embraces her identity and makes some ass-shakin' beats because in the process. For a debut single from a female rap artist it's quite impressive with booming beats and hand-claps galore, and chock full of boisterous commands.
The video, however, is what has everyone talking. With Steven Klein at the helm ('Alejandro' anyone?) it was bound to be a feast for the eyes. The video is sure to give you nightmares with its sadistic undertones and heavy material. What a way to make an entrance, Brooke.
The video begins with Brooke fighting a man who she eventually kills by snapping his neck, and then she goes on a sex-fueled rampage amongst shots of her driving in her car declaring her opulence. Her rhinestoned face is what makes the greatest impression, and the rest of the video is a lot of glitz and crazy glam before Brooke has a seizure in her car and runs into a truck spelling the ultimate disaster.
If people weren't already talking they will be now. Brooke Candy is making a statement, and I'm sure I'll have nightmares tonight which means she's doing her job. I can't wait to see what else this woman has up her sleeve.
