'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up' by Nicki Minaj Album Review

After releasing two highly successful albums, Pink Friday and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Nicki Minaj wisely decided to capitalize off her success and re-release her sophomore album as Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up. The re-release contains seven brand new songs, and we have the return of the rapping urban Nicki that originally made us fall in love with her. I don't believe she sold out with Roman Reloaded even though she's basically only released the pop/dance songs as singles, but it's nice to see that she still has that crazy spirit inside her that has been locked away for a while. Overall, the album is very strong and doesn't really have any weak tracks. Her crazy, foul-mouthed ego is back with a vengeance and she proves why she is the #1 female rapper in the game.

1. Up In Flames - 8/10

'Up In Flames' is the perfect was to start off this album. It's got this huge beat that's swagalicious. (And yes I really did just write that. Don't judge.) It's one of those that you jack up the volume for and blare it like there's no one else around. It's such a hard beat, and Nicki raps about her up-and-coming empire. It's a powerful song, and sets the tone of the album.

2. Freedom - 8/10

This is a great follow-up to 'Up In Flames' because it continues with the theme of Nicki and her empire, and how everyone else around her is always trying to bring her down despite her success and the strides she has made in the rap industry. It's a truly beautiful song. For a more in-depth review, check out my original post HERE.

3. Hell Yeah (feat. Parker) - 8/10

This is the first upbeat track on the album, and it has a really interesting beat to it. I'm not really feeling Parker's contribution to the song, and I honestly think she could have done without it (or made it more interesting). Nicki's in full force, giving a shout out to her haters as she asks why they just can't just let her be herself and have fun. The song also includes a verse about her American Idol spat with Mariah Carey. “I’ll take it, sign on the dotted line / But I’m quick to the check a bitch if she outta line. Shout out Mike Darnell and Nigel / Why these bums so mad that the queen on Idol, huh?” You tell 'em Nicki!

4. High School (feat. Lil Wayne) - 9/10

Despite the song featuring the ever disgusting Lil Wayne, it's one of the strongest tracks on the album. It's got an epic beat that draws you in and never lets you go. It's about falling in love with the bad boy, but seeing past his flaws. It's dirty and suggestive, just like the real Nicki.

5. I'm Legit (feat. Ciara) - 10/10

Ciara's a has-been, let's face the facts. BUT this track is siiiick, and Nicki is in rare form here where she raps like her life depends on it. The verses alternate between rapid fire and some great syncopation. In my opinion, one of Nicki's best raps ever. She even references the fact that she got a shout out from President Obama. I don't think anyone can doubt that Nicki's legit.

6. I Endorse These Strippers (feat. Tyga) - 10/10

Tied with the latter as my favorite song on the album, 'I Endorse These Strippers' is flat out amazeballs! I think the reason I like this one so much is because the lyrics are filthy and it's like a teenage adolescent rap. It's so bad that it feels so right. The beat is also very simple, but it fits perfectly. I mean, how can you not like Nicki saying "Oooooh, Boobs, Boobs, Boobs, Boobs, Lottta Boobs?"

7. The Boys (feat. Cassie) - 8/10

This track is the perfect way to end the album because it's upbeat, and it has just enough of a hint of pop that it flows well into the Roman Reloaded album. I still think this is a great song, and a whole lot of fun. Read the rest HERE.

Tracks to Check Out: 'High School', 'I'm Legit', 'I Endorse These Strippers'

Overall Rating: 8/10
