The X Factor USA 2012: Top 6

This week on The X Factor the contestants took on the songs that the fans chose as part of the Pepsi challenge as well as an unplugged performance. The performances were all really good, and only CeCe and Emblem3 had performances that were below average. It was honestly one of the best nights of the competition so far as each contestant had two songs to prove why they should be here.

CeCe Frey
CeCe decided to take on Lady GaGa this week, a choice which was not a good one. 'Edge of Glory' has notes that CeCe just cannot hit. I keep saying that she needs to stay in her lower register where she actually excels, but she once again went for those stratosphere notes and crumbled. I just don't understand why she doesn't stay in the range where she can actually succeed. I feel this is the end of the road for her.

Emblem3
I actually thought the boys did a decent job with this performance. It wasn't great, but it wasn't as wretched as their other ones have been. While this is still too poppy for them, it's much more suited to their style. There's obviously only one member in this group that sing decently, and I think it's making itself known.

Carly Rose Sonenclar
When Britney said Carly would be singing a Bieber song I almost lost faith in my queen, but luckily she turned it out. The arrangement of the song was very unexpected, and it fit Carly like a glove. What I loved most about this performance was that it showed Carly could be young and relevant even though she's staying in her wheelhouse.

Fifth Harmony
I heard "Adele" and I almost screamed at the TV. Singing Adele on these shows is basically suicide, but these girls proved me wrong. They've come a long way, and this performance was so unexpected from them. They didn't try to imitate Adele, but it didn't feel a cheap knock-off either. It actually worked very well.

Diamond White
Diamond blows me away each week, and this was no different. It constantly amazes me how strong of a voice she has for being as young as she is. This is a big song, but she pulled it out, and sung it flawlessly like always. She may be on the chopping block this week because she doesn't have as much support as the others, but at she least she can go out with a bang.

Tate Stevens
Tate singing Bon Jovi? No. I didn't like it all. Yes, he country-fied it and it worked to some extent, but I disliked it. It didn't scream "Tate Stevens" to me, and I lost who he was. This is one of his only bad performances, which is saying something as this is only bad based on the song choice, not the vocals.

CeCe Frey
We're onto the viewer chosen songs now. I actually voted for CeCe to sing 'Part of Me' because I was deliberately trying to throw her under the bus. I knew the vocals on this would destroy her, but sadly it worked really well for her. I was shocked because CeCe gave one of her best performances in a long time with this. Flabbergasted.

Emblem3
I'm glad the fans actually know what kind of music these boys should be singing. This was a perfect choice, and they actually sounded really good. When they sing what they want to they are 10x better than we have ever seen. Keep it up!

Carly Rose Sonenclar
Carly is singing a Beyoncé song this week, and of course, she smashes it. 'If I Were a Boy' is one of those songs that can be huge if done right, and Carly nailed it as always. It was a beautiful vocal performance from our resident belter.

Fifth Harmony
Uh oh, they're taking on Demi Lovato? It definitely wasn't as good as I would have liked. It paled in comparison to Demi's version, and I was a little disappointed. But can we take a minute and listen to how atrocious Demi's live vocals are? Yikes!

Diamond White
This is exactly what I voted for Diamond to sing, and I'm glad America agreed. Rihanna's 'Diamonds' is the hottest song out there right now, and it could not have been a better fit for Diamond's voice. She nailed this performance, and I loved the staging.

Tate Stevens
Another song in his wheelhouse. It wasn't the most exciting of songs, and even though it put everyone to sleep it was still a flawless performance from our country star.

I would definitely say CeCe should be eliminated immediately, and my Bottom Two would be Emblem3 and Diamond. For the instant elimination, it came as no surprise that CeCe was sent packing. Finally! She could have won this show if she had a better attitude and picked songs that featured her vocals, but sadly she did neither. This means that Demi is now an act-less judge. I may be dying of laughter right now... In the Bottom Two is Diamond White and Fifth Harmony. Both of them gave pretty good performances, but Diamond is sent home. Ugh, so sad to see her leave as she was my second favorite. And now Britney only has one act left. Are you ready for the semi-finals next week?
