'Birthday' Music Video by Katy Perry
Katy Perry may not have had much success with her latest album PRISM (or any success really) but there are a few decent bops on the album that deserved to be singles. 'Dark Horse' exploded into something I never expected, but while I patiently wait for Katy to release 'Walking On Air' and 'Legendary Lovers' I'll make due with 'Birthday'.
'Birthday' is one of the strongest tracks on the album that would not have felt out of place on Teenage Dream. It captures the playful, carefree side of Katy that really connects with listeners and it's just such a great tune to jam out to. Unsurprisingly she chose it to be her next single and I think it could be a huge hit this summer.
We just got the video today, and like Gaga's norm it's quite lengthy. Clocking in at eight minutes, the video for 'Birthday' is a whole heaping spoon of confectionery fun. Katy attends five different birthday parties undercover as a Jewish emcee, a blonde bimbo face painter, a clown, a petting zoo entertainer and a sixty year old stripper. The make-up and prosthetics are so convincing you'd never know it was Katy underneath all those layers.
Basically, she goes to all the parties, causes a ruckus, and then reveals her identity and suddenly everyone's having fun. With the song there really wasn't much to base a video off of so I think this is quite fun and cute. Katy may have underperformed with her album but her videos are always visual treats that keep me coming back for seconds.
