'Passenger (Acoustic)' by Britney Spears featuring Sia

My 1,000 post? Can this actually be happening? After just over three years of blogging, The Magic Critique has hit 1,000 posts and what's more fitting than returning to my roots and blogging about Britney? The 'Hold It Against Me' music video, after all, was my very first post here. It's been an amazing ride, and let's hope for 1,000 more!

Since it appears like we're never getting a third single off the under-performing and ill-received Britney Jean, fans have taken to remixing some of the tracks to give us something new to enjoy. The latest is an acoustic mix of 'Passenger' by Nick* and the Country Club Martini Crew.

Sia co-wrote and provided backing vocals for 'Passenger' and it was one of the strongest tracks on the album, whether or not it was actually Britney saying. With this mix things are stripped back and it makes it feel unlike anything Brit Brit has done before. Just imagine her sitting down on a stool next to a guitarist and singing this live on stage.

The song starts off with the heavenly goddess clearing her throat, telling us to prepare for the major slayage that is about to happen. Over a simple acoustic guitar Britney lets her raw vocals shine, and in the second verse we get some ad libbing which goes to show that we need more live vocals and less Autotuneney on the next record.

The trade off with Sia makes for a gorgeous balance, and lends a more ethereal and emotional dimension to the track. Sia can do no wrong, and her work with Ms. Spears only elevates her more to living up to the title of Godney. The Holy Spearit is truly shining down on us as we bask in the glow of this religious anthem. Or a love song to Brit's children. Or giving up control in a relationship. We're still not really sure what it's about...

  1. Congrats on your 1000th!

The articles here are very interesting, considering that you cover not only mainstream pop culture but also the up-and-rising ones. Just one thing- have you ever thought about giving TMC a grand makeover? You know... break free from the "old blog" look and try a sleeker, more professional template?
For sure your critiques would garner a larger following if you'll do so. :) Keep writing hon
