'Pills N Potions' by Nicki Minaj
Today is a big day in music as it marks the return of the empress of rap, Miss Nicki Minaj. Nicki has been one of the biggest femcees in history and today marks the beginning of a new era in her career. Moving away from the crazy costumes and hair, Nicki's going back to her roots, a move that many fans are sure to appreciate.
Following the release of hard rap tracks like 'Lookin Ass Nigga' and 'Yasss Bish', Nicki's giving us her unique blend of hip-hop and pop with the first single from The Pink Print. 'Pills N Potions' is a monster Dr. Luke-produced ballad that will leave you in tears.
Nicki has described The Pink Print as a very emotional and personal record, and this single is a great indicator of the overall sound. Nicki described her new sound as very Onika which can only mean that it's going to deal with all the real issues that lay underneath all that make-up.
Nicki's vocals are delivered gently and effortlessly over a piano-driven beat, and her rapping is very delicate throughout the verses. Her lyrics are even painful at times, and I think that's what's so great about 'Pills N Potions': it's relatable and raw. Nicki's on to something here, and there's no doubt she's going to sit on top of the charts again.
Nicki's third studio album The Pink Print is due out later this year.
