'Your Love' by Nicole Scherzinger
Following her stint as a judge on the U.K. version of The X Factor which actually probably saved her career, Nicole Scherzinger is coming back with her sophomore album. Despite many problems and set backs, her 2011 debut Killer Love was actually quite killer and spawned a few hits in the U.K. but she still hasn't conquered the U.S. market.
'Your Love' is the debut single from her upcoming album. With The-Dream and Tricky Stewart at the helm you know it's gotta be good, right? Well, it's almost a smash. The song is very '90s sounding with a cheap instrumental that feels like it was cooked up in a teenager's basement. Nostalgia, yeah?
That being said, Nicole is no stranger to a catchy chorus, and 'Your Love' grabs your attention with the simplest "ooh do do do-do do" repetition. It's a magnificent blend of urban-pop with gorgeous synths. The song really heats up during the bridge into the final chorus, but then the outro is unnecessarily long and tedious. It was so close to being perfect.
I can tell you right now this'll flop harder in the U.S. than Bionic, but it'll probably storm the charts in the U.K. She's established her reign in Europe so why not cater to that audience? It's just like Kelis: popular abroad but unwanted at home.
