'Fireproof' by One Direction

Today is a big day in music. One Direction, certifiably the biggest boy band in the game at the moment, just announced their fourth studio album, FOUR (what's with musicians numerically naming their albums all of a sudden?), will be released on November 17th. In a Beyoncé-esque move, with their surprise album announcement they also released a sample of what's to come.

'Fireproof' is the first cut we're hearing from One Direction's more "mature" record. The boys are much more heavily involved in the song writing process this time around so it should not come as a shock that this song was written by Louis and Liam. Harry Styles got one of his songs on Ariana Grande's record so it's nice to see they are more than just pretty faces and sweet voices.

'Fireproof' also sees a shift in sound as it's less Max Martin and more The Beach Boys. Giving us a subtler, moodier vibe the boys really shine. It's not a bombastic pop record by any means, but it's also quite brilliant with echoing strings and a driving drum line. I'm really diggin' this one, and if they've got more of this then I can see this album being their first critically acclaimed record.

One Direction's brand new album FOUR is set to be released on November 17th.
