'The Key' by Breach featuring Kelis
I don't think it's possible to put into words how much I need a Flesh Tone 2.0 in my life. Kelis is one of the most versatile artists out there, effortlessly doing R&B, soul, dance and hip-hop as if it's second nature. Her defining moment has been 2010's Flesh Tone, a sonic masterpiece. Nothing since that release has quite lived up to its stature.
After 2014's FOOD, Kelis is getting back in the dance groove. DJ Breach is a rising DJ in the English club scene, and he's tapped the smoky vocals of Kelis to shoot his new track to a meteoric high. 'The Key' was originally meant to be just a remix of FOOD's 'Rumble', but Kelis loved what he was doing so much that she joined him in the studio to create some new tunes.
'The Key' is ultimately a House smash. Over pulsating synths and electronic clicks, Kelis's voice flows effortlessly. Her signature smoky vibrato wafts over the beat, giving it that extra textured something special that sets it apart from everything else. In the words of the eternal Britney Spears, "Gimme more!"
