New Summer 2012 TV Shows

It's a new season and you know what that means: new TV shows! While the summer season isn't chock full of quality TV programming, it does bring with it the incredible show True Blood, as well as Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen and Master Chef. Other quality shows such as Teen Wolf and Falling Skies help fill the void, but with a new season comes some new shows. Check 'em out below, and I'll be adding to the list as the season progresses so make sure to check back.

Duets
By the time summer rolls around we are sick of singing competitions, right? Duets premiered three weeks ago, and by the time it began I had already watched The X Factor (both the UK and the US versions), The Voice, American Idol and I am now in the process of watching America's Got Talent. It's plain and simple: we DO NOT need another singing show during the summer season. The show was set up for failure from the beginning, and after watching the first few weeks it's been deemed mostly a failure. While the celebrity coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Robin Thicke and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland make the show worth watching, the dull contestants and annoying format turn off most viewers. Each coach has two contestants who they sing a duet with each week, and at the end of each performance the other three coaches enter a secret score which get compiled to rank the contestants. The Bottom Two then sing acapella for their lives and the coaches send one home. It's no secret that Jennifer Nettles will win the competition, but it'll be interesting to see how the show takes shape once the public vote is incorporated in two weeks.

Dallas
TNT had a huge smash on its hands last year when they premiered the Stephen Spielberg produced Falling Skies, and now they have another big hit. The older generation out there may remember a little show of the same name that began in 1978, spanned fourteen seasons and changed television landscape. This 2012 release is the continuation of the original Dallas, and centers around the two sons of brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing, both of whom return in this new ensemble. The cousins, Christopher and John Ross, are at war with each other, and their individual wars suck in Bobby and J.R. who are then at war with each other. The continuation of the beloved original shines in its own primetime soap opera format even though it shares many of the similarities of the original. Even if you've never watched the original series, you can still watch this new version because it's everything a good drama should be. This is a must see show of the season.
