'Maps' by Maroon 5

Ever since Adam Levine joined The Voice Maroon 5 have seen massive success, as well as an evolution in their sound. Over the past couple years the band have morphed into a straight-up pop act that have dominated the charts with many singles from one of the best albums of 2012 - Overexposed. The group are set to release their fifth studio album in September, the appropriately titled V, and ready to start the new era they just dropped their brand new single.

'Maps' is the lead single from their new album, and while it retains that massive pop hook that Overexposed brought, the group is getting back in touch with their Songs About Jane roots and mixing their signature Maroon 5 sound with their chart-topping pop sound. It's a welcome change because while I love songs like 'Payphone' nothing can quite compare to 'She Will Be Loved'.

The new single is about Adam being in a relationship where "I was there for you / In your darkest times / I was there for you / In your darkest nights," but at his worst she was nowhere to be found and so he's consulting his map to find his way back to her. Things would be easier if he had the Marauder's Map, but not even Adam's elegant beauty and charm can bring about that magic. Is 'Maps' a summer smash? That remains to be seen, but it seems like V will be a welcome change.

Maroon 5's fifth studio album, V, is set to be released on September 2nd.
