'Mother & Father' by Broods
Easily my favorite indie act in recent memory, Broods are marching on and preparing their first full length LP. From their moody debut single 'Bridges' to their self-titled EP (the first standout release of 2014), the brother and sister duo have proved they're a force to be reckoned with.
Today they dropped the first single off their forthcoming EP Evergreen. 'Mother & Father' isn't as dark and brooding as 'Bridges' but it still packs an emotional wallop. The song is about leaving the nest and opening your wings and soaring on your own like the cover art suggests. It's something we can all relate to.
But it's also about looking back on your life with melancholy, remembering the times you were sheltered by your parents. It was easy back then. Like all their releases, 'Mother & Father' is atmospheric but the sort of tribal flair that the tambourine and drums bring gives it a triumphant feel. It's good to remember the past, but we have to carve out our own futures Broods seem to be telling us. If they're coming this hard now, Evergreen is going to be a bangin' record.
