'Shades of Cool' Music Video by Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey released her masterpiece album Ultraviolence yesterday, and with that she debuted the music video for her latest single. Lana is everywhere these days and her artistry continues to grow. Lana's videos have always been opulent pieces of work, and her latest is no different.

The LP's second single is the magnificent 'Shades of Cool' and finally we have a video for it. Although the 'West Coast' video (mostly) worked in its simplicity, it was just too blah for Lana's standards. With the video for 'Shades of Cool' she mixes the decadent nature of 'Young & Beautiful' with the bizarre visuals of 'Summertime Sadness'. It's unequivocally Lana.

The video sees Del Rey staking out an older man looking like a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills circa the '60s. It's then a full on love affair between Lana and this older man. She's in a state of bliss, and she looks positively stunning in a bathing suit dripping in Pepsi-Cola, but it's the hologram Lana (or a holo-Lana) in the other shots that are bizarre. What does it mean? Like our blue jeans-wearing chanteuse so eloquently put it, "I don’t have to fucking explain it."
