'Chasing the Sun' by Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff is one of the most revered and successful stars to ever come out of the Disney Channel circuit, and she's one of the few to have not been warped and addled by her teen fame. Now a mother of one of the most adorable kids ever, the Duffster is ready to get her music career started again. It's been too long.

Hilary hasn't released any music since 2007's Dignity. Over the past year she's been teasing us that new music was coming, initially saying that she was going in the highly successful EDM route. Her music was originally very biographical and dark, but she decided she wanted to keep it light and fun so she enlisted the help of Ed Sheeran to go for a more folk-inspired sound. It's safe to say we won't be getting an updated 'Come Clean' any time soon.

Hilary's first single off her upcoming album 'Chasing the Sun' made its debut today, and it's, well, underwhelming. It's not bad by any means, but it's not a comeback single. Fans have been rallying around her for months, and this was supposed to be her immaculate return to the charts. Instead, it's a cute summer tune much in the vein of Colbie Caillat and her debut album Metamorphosis.

And, ironically, it is written by Colbie Caillat. 'Chasing the Sun' is an effortless and breezy guitar-driven pop tune that makes for a good windows-down turn-up-in-the-car moment, but that's about it. Hilary coos sweetly over the chorus, "I’m chasing the sun / Won’t miss out on the fun, gotta get it while our hearts are young." It's cute, it's fun, but it's not what we were waiting for. Let's hope her album has more to offer.

Hilary Duff's fifth studio album is set to be released late 2014/early 2015.
