'Yellow Flicker Beat' by Lorde
Taking a cue from Divergent's collaboration with Ellie Goulding, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 has enlisted the help of New Zealand star Lorde to curate the soundtrack as well as supply the theme song for the film. It's a brilliant collaboration idea, and at last Lorde has released her contribution to the score.
'Yellow Flicker Beat' is your typical Lorde, having worked with Joel Little and Paul Epworth, but on a much grander scale. The song features her haunting vocals but here she's backed by soaring strings and crashing drums, elevating it to the magnitude of the film.
“We rip the start, the colors disappear / I never watch the stars there’s so much down here / So I just try to keep up with them / Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart,” she sings over the synth-laden beat. It's very fitting for the film, and I can't wait to see what Lorde has put together for the film.
