'Living for Love' by Madonna
Late Friday night, Madonna shocked the internet when she dropped her new album Rebel Heart on iTunes. Following the 13 track demo leak earlier in the week, Madonna went into overdrive figuring out how to combat this "artistic rape." The album is not set for release until March 10th, but Madonna is giving us 6 tracks now followed by 6 more around the time of the Grammy Awards.
The first single from the album, which was originally supposed to be released on Valentine's Day, is 'Living for Love'. From the first few seconds it's clear that Madonna is BACK. Sonically it's different than anything we've heard from her in many years. '90s house has been huge in the music scene lately from pop princesses, but having actually been a huge force in the game during that time, Madge delivers it with real authenticity.
With production from MoZella, Ariel Rechtstaid, Toby Gad, Diplo and Nick Rowe (and Alicia Keys on the piano!!), this is a beast of a track. The song is full of club-worthy pulsations and empowering lyrics, and it wouldn't be complete without religious iconography. The song is a great feel-good track, and it's easily the best thing we've heard from Madge since the Confessions era.
The rest of the album is outstanding. With production from Diplo and Kanye West, songs like 'Ghosttown', 'Devil Pray' and 'Bitch I'm Madonna' are instant standouts. Instead of riding the wave, Madonna is being innovative once again and setting the stage for music in 2015. Rebel Heart is ready to dominate the world next year.
