'Sirens' Music Video by Cher Lloyd
I fell in love with Cher Lloyd when she was just sixteen performing on The X Factor UK, and then the U.S. was introduced to her with her catchy and bubbly 'Want U Back'. She has always been seen as a kind of sugary pop and juvenile artist, but that is all about to change with her sophomore record Sorry I'm Late.
When 'Sirens' was released I got major hope for this album, and all the subsequent promo singles have blown me and critics away. Cher is now more mature both in her sound and her lyrics, and 'Sirens' is a true testament to that. I still listen to the powerful mid-tempo on a daily basis.
The video was just released today and I actually got chills while watching it which doesn't happen often. If the song wasn't emotionally heavy enough, the video gives it an even deeper level of meaning and maturity on the part of Cher.
The video revolves around Cher being in a relationship with a sketchy guy who deals drugs, and they have a daughter together. Cher is visibly upset and addled with her current situation. Then the DEA shows up, but she takes matters into her own hands burning the drugs and saving her daughter.
Cher's acting in this is astounding, putting all her energy into delivering a raw and unfiltered representation of a broken yet strong woman. The visuals are dark and stunning, and it's put Cher on a whole new artistic course.
