The X Factor USA: Top 9

In light of Thanksgiving this Thursday, The X Factor decided to set the theme of Giving Thanks for the contestants to perform to.  This probably ended up being the most bizarre episode of TV I have EVER seen in my life.  Almost every contestants' video intro was an annoying sob story, and it really got to the point where it was driving me mad.  Most of them were just sympathy-vote-driven even though they didn't have a real problem.  Then we had Melanie Amaro go into some sort of possessed trance where she just kept talking and talking with an accent.  The performances weren't as great as they should have been, but the judges basically said nothing but nice things even about some contestants who were horrendous.  One of the most shocking moments of the night was L.A. Reid's lack of musical knowledge.  How the hell do you not know that 'Skyscraper' was sung by Demi Lovato and was released just this year?!  That completely baffled me.  As you can see by what I have written this was a very strange episode of television.  And guess what?  It's a Double Elimination this week!  Great way for the contestants to spend their Thanksgiving, huh?

Rachel Crowe
It was nice to see Rachel take on another big song, but the choruses were very awkward for me.  It just didn't quite work.  The choir was a great addition and there is no doubt that this girl can sing.  She puts a smile on my face every time she graces that stage.

Melanie Amaro
Like always, it was a big church song complete with the gospel choir.  I'm starting to get bored of this, and I really want her to do something different.  I need to see some versatility from her.  You could definitely tell that this was a very emotional song for her to sing.  The whole outburst at the end was just bizarre.  Let's leave it at that.

LaKoda Rayne
I felt that this was one of their weaker performances.  How does Taylor Swift's song "You Belong With Me" relate to the theme?  I don't know, but it was just average.  They were struggling to keep the song together and I fear they may be going home this week.

Astro
Even through Astro broke down last week he brought his A-Game once again.  This was a rap to all his fans, and I felt like these were his most clever lyrics to date.  Loved every moment of it.  I really hope he doesn't find himself in the Bottom Two again after what happened last week.

Drew
Drew did a good job, but she's beginning to become too predictable.  Like with Melanie, I want to see some more versatility from her and I want her to take some risks.  She has it in her to win, but she needs to bring something more to the table.  And I won't delve into L.A. Reid's stupidity too much, but come on.  You're a music mogul and you think that the only song that Demi Lovato released this year, which was a chart smasher, was a song that 40-year-old people sing and it make's Drew too old?  Puh-lease.  I'm glad Simon attacked him for it because that was simply idiotic.

After watching the show, I believe that the Bottom Three will be LaKoda Rayne, Marcus Canty and either Chris Rene or Astro.  It'll be interesting to see how America voted because I'm still not too sure how they are reacting to this show.  I think we may be in for some surprises this week!
