Katy B

Today's up-and-coming female is Katy B.  She is a British singer who is really bringing dubstep into the forefront and she has already won many accolades in her short career.  Her debut album 'On a Mission' was released earlier this year and was met with overwhelming reviews.  Before I go further here is her "official" review:

06. Katy B, 22
Sounds Like: Lily Allen with dubstep.
Album: On A Mission dropped in the UK last April, and is scheduled for release in the US later this year.
The Buzz: With three Top 10 singles in the UK, the Katy B (aka Kathleen Brien) was also nominated for a Mercury Prize for Album Of The Year. She’s hitting the road with other newbie superstar from the UK, Tinie Tempah.

What first drew me in was that she sounds like "Lily Allen with dubstep".  I LOVE Lily Allen, and I also have a soft spot for some mainstream dubstep.  Dubstep's really been inching its way into the spotlight, and what Katy B brings to it is great.  Her album all around is pretty solid and very enjoyable.  And when I say "mainstream dubstep" don't think that her music is merely influenced by dubstep, it is hardcore dubstep.  And the fact that she writes all her own music is an added plus.  I'm sure we'll be hearing more from Katy soon, and I hope that she is able to crossover to the American market because she deserves widespread success and support.
