'All Star Girl Groups' by RuPaul's All Stars Drag Race

After the shocking and unjust elimination of Team Latrila last week, I knew this episode wasn't going to be quite as fun as the last. Manila's just the star of the show, but the episode turned out to be jam-packed with shade and some new celebrity additions to the show! This week's mini-challenge was one of the most popular challenges on the show because reading is what? Fun-da-men-tal. Ru had the girls do a modified version of the reading challenge where they had to do a cheer whilst throwing shade. The girls were in half-drag and dressed as cheerleaders, and then they took shots at their fellow sisters. Team Yarlexis was hilarious, even though it was hard to understand them. Team Rujubee was a little disappointing as they both are some of the best reading Queens to ever exist. Team Shad was just okay as well, but I thought they fell flat. Honestly, this challenge was a huge letdown mainly because it was a cheer and they couldn't really read as well they do when they're individuals and just standing there. It came as no surprise that Yara and Alexis won the mini-challenge.
For this week's main challenge, Ru tasked the girls with forming girl groups with which they would perform on the main stage to one of Ru's songs as well as do choreography, etc. in front of a live audience. The twist is that Ru brought in three celebrities to join each team. Kelly Osbourne, Jillian Hervey (Vanessa Williams' daughter) and Kady Z (Pia Zadora's daughter). Ru has the girls pick which song they want to sing, and each celebrity has been pre-assigned to a song. Shad chooses Jillian, Rujubee chooses Kady and Yarlexis chooses Kelly. This is the first main challenge this season that has resembled a true Drag Race challenge, and I'm loving it! It really tests the girls skills, a crucial part of being a Drag Race Hall of Famer that has been surprisingly absent from the competition. Watching the girls rehearse their number is always exciting to watch because it's the time when the claws come out. Team Shad was the most entertaining because as always Shannel tried to take over and choreograph the entire number despite being the only one on the team that doesn't have a background in dance. It was clear Chad was not having it (see gif above). Team Rujubee really worked well together, but since they picked 'Jealous of My Boogie' they sort of went the easy route since they've already done this during Season 2. Team Yarlexis started off looking amazing, but during the rehearsal Yara kept changing the choreography and actually ended up simplifying it until there wasn't much left. Uh oh! Will the girls deliver or will they crash and burn...

Up first was Team Shad. Wow! By far they were the best performers. Their routine had full-out choreography, and I loved the whole chain play with Jillian. And it really does well when your celebrity shines and really brings the performance to its ultimate high. You could say that Jillian stole the show, but I think Chad and Shannel were equally fierce. I loved all their looks except for Shannel's. It just didn't do anything for me. There's no doubt in my mind they will win this challenge.

Team Yarlexis performed 'Cover Girl' with Miss Kelly O. I thought out of all the groups they looked the most like a girl group and had the best outfits. I loved everything about it. However, their actual performance was a little lackluster. It was all over the place, and just not up to par. However, they had good audience interaction. They'll definitely be in the Bottom Two.

I love Team Rujubee, but this performance was not their best. First, they did a lot of what they had already done in Season 2 in terms of choreography so it wasn't very original, and then Kady Z really let them down. Not only did she not want to be "dragged out," but she was also a lousy performer. I also didn't really care for their outfits all that much. Although to be fair I didn't have an issue with the terracotta tights. I thought they looked great.

As I predicted, Team Shad won the challenge which meant Yarlexis and Rujubee were in the Bottom Two. Alexis and Raven elected to lip sync. Sorry Alexis, but Raven has this one in the bag. No contest. They perform to the Pussycat Dolls' 'Don't Cha', and Raven is on fire. It's actually so sexual and hot that it's kind of hard to watch. Alexis is being obliterated, but what's that? Yara pushed the she-mergency button! Yara takes a-now-pissed-off Alexis' place and finishes the lip sync to no avail. Finally, Yara and Alexis are told to sashay away. Don't get me wrong, Alexis and Yara have always been some of my favorites but they played the victim this season and just did not rise to the bar that Queens like Manila, Raven and Juju had set. Overall, it was a great episode, and it was the most drag-filled of the season.
