In a surprise that shocked everyone, Britney Spears announced that she would be singing the theme song for the new The Smurfs 2 film. Britney did it as a gift to her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James which is about as cute as it can get. The film doesn't come out until June, but like all of Britney's work, it leaked early this morning and you're in for a surprise. Of course it's another uptempo dance-pop track with a bunch of auto-tune, but it's a much different sound than I've ever heard Britney do. She sings the chorus in this ultra high voice, perhaps trying out her own Smurfy voice. And then, it's got more of this chanty, Avril Lavigne 'Girlfriend'-esque sound. It's extremely cute and catchy, and I can't wait to go to the theater and hear this song blasting over the credits at the end. This is also a great little something to tide us over until Britney moves to Vegas for the next two years to do her residency at Planet Hollywood.

UPDATE 6/17: Britney Spears joined Ryan Seacrest this morning to debut the song officially. Although this is the "official" version, there really isn't much of a difference from the "demo" version that leaked a month ago. But now, fortunately, it's available to download on iTunes so support the queen and let's get this to #1 for Britney's boys! The more important part of today was that Brit gave an exclusive interview where she gave us some juicy deets on what's in store for the future. The music video will debut in a several weeks, she sort of confirmed her Vegas residency by not denying it, and she said that Album 8 will be very different, more mature and will be out by the end of the year! The highlights of the interview, for me, were that Britney feels her "ooh la la" moments when she eats chocolate, and she was putting out potpurri while on the phone with Ryan.
