Kelis is one of my favorite artists ever, and I still think she's severely underrated. Her album Fleshtone is one of the greatest albums of the past few years, but everyone seems to think she's just the 'Milkshake' one-hit wonder. Kelis is prepping for the release of her upcoming album F.O.O.D. on February 11th. The album was supposed to have been released earlier this year with a second album coming out sometime around now. The first single from the new album 'Jerk Ribs' was released back in April and was a totally different sound for Kelis. Today, Kelis released a new song 'Been Given a Morning' which is unlike anything we've ever heard from her before. The song is a stripped back piano ballad that really relies just on Kelis' smoky vocals. It almost sounds live, and that's what gives it the magic. It's even a bit jazzy. It's a very powerful song, and I can feel the emotion pouring out of it. This isn't going to give her any radio play, but Kelis obviously doesn't care about that which makes this even more special. I can't wait to hear the rest of F.O.O.D.
