'Break Free' by Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande is undeniably the biggest female in pop music right now, and if you disagree you're blind. Her swagged-out horn bop 'Problem' with the "it" diva of rap, Iggy Azalea, has been dominating airwaves and is inescapable this summer. I was a total hater but this new Ariana is giving me life, and everything about this new era is going right.

Just a few days ago she announced her second album My Everything which is very collab heavy; she's got what is sure to be another smash hit of the summer, a massive threesome collab with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj coming soon, hopefully giving us another 'Lady Marmalade' moment; and let's not forget that she brought back TRL for a one-day special yesterday. Ariana was born to make you happy. And happy I am.

For her second single there's no holds barred as she gives us that one song every pop diva needs: their dance-floor anthem that appeals to all, especially the gays. Every female artist needs that booty shakin', twerk-inducing jam that lets everyone know it's time to get to werk. 'Break Free' is that song.

Produced by Zedd, one of the masters behind Gaga's standout 'G.U.Y.' among many other hit tracks, 'Break Free' is her moment of emancipation, except there's no Mimi to be found. The song begins slowly with Ariana declaring that “I only wanna die alive / Never by the hands of a broken heart,” before the beat begins to swell. Then comes the big moment when she screams for all the world to hear: "This is...the part when...I break free!"

Raucous electro-pop flawlessness follows and it's all uphill from there. Ariana whispers and throws some Mariah runs over the beat as euphoria takes over and you get completely lost in Zedd's swirling beats. 'Problem' is only the calm before the storm. Get ready.

Ariana's sophomore album My Everything is set to be released August 25th.
