Top 20 Singles of 2014

Yesterday I brought you the list of my top 15 favorite albums of the year, and now it's time to delve into the individual songs that I had on repeat all year long. There were some gorgeous pieces of pop productions that laid claim to my heart, and I had a very hard time narrowing it down to just twenty. As always, these are my own personal favorites so sound off in the comments below if you disagree. Now, let's us delve into these twerk-inducing, clap-heavy, and mostly-overplayed singles.

20. Nick Jonas, "Jealous"

Nick shocked the world with his new image, and his latest single has been burning up radio. The Tinashe-assisted remix is the ultimate jam.

19. Selena Gomez, "The Heart Wants What It Wants"

Using the pain of the Bieber Fever, Selena delivered the most heart-wrenching and sincere song of her career.

18. Lady GaGa, "G.U.Y."

Gaga's ARTPOP era was a mess, but 'G.U.Y.' was one of the best pieces of music on her album and was accompanied by an equally epic music video.

17. Brooke Candy, "Opulence"

This out rapper largely went under the radar this year, but her Sia-assisted debut EP (including 'Opulence') served us Paris Is Burning realness with raps as good as Nicki's.

16. Kylie Minogue, "Into the Blue"

Kylie always delivers, and the lead single from Kiss Me Once is a slice of euphoric pop.

15. Wrathschild, "Fall Into Love"

This new duo formed with the bae, Simon Curtis, wormed their way into my heart with their infectious debut single 'Fall Into Love' that showed all the mainstream artists what pop music should be.

14. Fifth Harmony, "Sledgehammer"

It was hard to choose between this and 'BO$$', but 'Sledgehammer' better represents the incredible growth this X Factor-bred group has undergone.

13. Ariana Grande featuring The Weeknd, "Love Me Harder"

Ariana's first entry on this list is currently dominating radio and is one of the best pop songs of her career.

12. Charli XCX, "Boom Clap"

This release from The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack brought Charli XCX into the mainstream and kick-started her U.S. career.

11. Nicki Minaj, "Anaconda"

Yes it's a lot of recycling and a lot of singing about fat ass big bitches in da club, but not only is the crazy laughing at the end iconic, but it also represents the Year of the Booty the best.

10. Coldplay, "A Sky Full of Stars"

Coldplay makes magic with every one of their songs, and 'A Sky Full of Stars' has been a staple this year. It's one of their most euphoric songs that never ceases to get my heart racing.

9. Sam Smith, "Stay With Me"

Sam Smith's mega-hit continuously brings tears to my eyes.

8. Ariana Grande featuring Zedd, "Break Free"

Ariana's second entry here is the Zedd-assisted 'Break Free' which saw Ariana accept her destiny as a pop princess and gave the gays their summer jam.

7. Katy B, "Crying for No Reason"

This U.K. songstress delivered the most emotional dance tune since Robyn's 'Dancing On My Own'.

6. Tinashe featuring SchoolBoy Q, "2 On"

This turn up jam brought the R&B princess into our lives and gave us the party anthem of the year.

5. Kiesza, "Hideaway"

Kiesza may have released this song quite a while ago, but it finally blew up and got the recognition it deserved this year.

4. Tove Lo, "Habits (Stay High)"

Again, Tove Lo's masterpiece took almost a year to blow up, but when it did it became one of the biggest and most memorable songs of the year.

3. Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX, "Fancy"

This list couldn't be complete without Iggy. 'Fancy' was the song of the summer, but actually, it was one of the most iconic songs of the year.

2. Röyksopp & Robyn, "Do It Again"

This Swedish pairing is a thing dreams are made of, and this song is the epitome of pop music.

1. Sia, "Chandelier"

Sia was the hit-maker of the year, penning songs for every artist under the sun, but it was her track 'Chandelier' that stole the year. With its soaring melodies and Sia's raw powerhouse vocals, this song showcases her talent and why everyone calls on her to get that one memorable song for their albums. Sia made the music of 2014.
