Melinda Doolittle was the third place finalist on the sixth season of American Idol, losing to Blake Lewis and winner Jordin Sparks. Melinda captivated my heart while she was on the show, and I always expected great things from her. She released her debut album Coming Back to You in 2009, and it's one of my favorite albums ever. Melinda took us back to the old school days with some jazzy doowop tracks, and of course her gorgeous vocals completed the album. She never really got any success from it which is a shame. She is currently the Reality TV competition talking head on TV Line with Michael Slezak. Melinda has finally graced us with a new song which she released independently. 'Never Giving Up' is the perfect song because it describes the trials and tribulations she has gone through with her career post-Idol, and it's very empowering. The song marks a divergence from her original sound, this time going more current R&B/gospel, something similar to what Jennifer Hudson would release. I miss the magic of Coming Back to You, but 'Never Giving Up' is a strong offering and I will always support Melinda.
