'Mean Gays' Music Video by Courtney Act
The end of RuPaul's Drag Race can only mean one thing: all the queens are coming out with new music. Adore Delano is set to release her first single next Tuesday, but it looks like fellow Final Three contender Courtney Act has beaten her to the punch.
For Valentine's Day, the Aussie queen released her second single 'To Russia With Love' which was a straight up Kylie Minogue-esque pop jam, but with her third single she's trying out something a bit different. 'Mean Gays' is a campy tune about the perils of the slim, in-shape, protein shake-drinking twinks of West Hollywood who are more trouble than you bargained for.
'Mean Gays', in true drag tradition, is quite campy, but besides the lyrics Courtney's talent is undeniable. Her vocals are on display here more than ever. The song has a bit of a jazzy/Broadway feel to with a Rihanna-esque 'S.O.S.' electro-pop nugget underneath. After the bridge, Courtney goes into Whitney Houston territory with some impressive runs. I'm in love.
The video is delectably cute, and shows just how talented Courtney is. She appears in and out of drag, and there's a great 'Hold It Against Me' moment when she fights herself. Fellow competitors Bianca and Adore make appearances, completing an already perfect video. Will Courtney be crowned America's Next Drag Superstar Monday night?
