'On the Rocks' by Nicole Scherzinger
Nicole Scherzinger, ex-Pussycat Dolls lead singer and ex-X Factor judge, had a moderate UK Top 10 hit with 'Your Love', the lead single off her follow-up to Killer Love. She's back with the second single off this mysterious album, and it's, um, okay...
Here's the thing: we know Nicole can make some great music like 'Don't Hold Your Breath' and 'Whatever U Like' but then she can make horrible music that's actually embarrassing. She just loses her direction and then never recovers despite all the incredible talent that's contained in that tiny body hers.
Her new single 'On the Rocks' suffers from the Scherzy Effect. It's not that bad of a song, and it's actually quite catchy, but it never goes anywhere. And don't even get me started on that awful bridge. Why she thought it would be okay to sound like T-Pain with all that auto-tune when she has such a powerful voice is beyond me. She could have belted and I'd have been happy.
I really don't know what this album is going to sound like, but if she can pull it together and give us an even better version of Killer Love then I'll be satisfied. But that's not looking too likely at the moment.
