'Eternal Queen' Music Video by Manila Luzon

Manila Luzon is one of, if not the, most successful drag queen to come from RuPaul's Drag Race. I've written about her many times here and have even had the pleasure of meeting her once, but her new album is something that deserves to be talked about and puts her above her contemporaries.

The Filipino queen has given us some of the best pop songs over the past few years, but her new collection Eternal Queen is something special. It's well-known that Manila was dating Season 2 queen Sahara Davenport and they were the drag couple of the century. Sahara unfortunately passed away two years ago, but Manila is keeping her legacy alive.

The title track 'Eternal Queen' is written about Sahara and how deeply her loss affected Manila. We all know Manila's not a singer, and the auto-tune is a bit much at times, but the pain and anguish in Manila's voice accompanied by the lush strings and simple piano melody give the song a powerful core-rattling sensibility.

The video is where things really get emotional as Manila sings in front of a white wall as videos of her and Sahara are projected over her. We also see Manila out of drag as Karl Westerberg, and it's these scenes that hit home as he begins crying. It celebrates Sahara's life but also is painful to watch as Manila relives all the pain. No queen, and not many pop stars, have released something as personal and emotional as this.

Manila is a one of a kind artist, and I am so proud of her for sharing this piece of herself with us. I will be reviewing her debut album Eternal Queen in the coming days so keep an eye out for that.
