'Spark the Fire' by Gwen Stefani
Gwen Stefani is prepping the release of her big comeback album, and even though I think 'Baby Don't Lie' is a smash, many have felt Gwen's return has been less than triumphant. Her untitled album still does not have a release date, and judging from her new single I'm wondering if it'll be pushed back.
Fellow The Voice judge Pharrell has been teasing Gwen's second single 'Start the Fire' for some time now at his live performances, and the song has sounded like this massive track done in true Gwen fashion. A clip of the music video is being used in a Fiat commercial airing tonight during the American Music Awards, but the song leaked early.
I'm disappointed. 'Start the Fire' has sounded like old Gwen with an attitude, but hearing the studio version I feel let down. The song is just lacking that oomph that Gwen gives all her best songs. And it's so incredibly repetitive. The bridge is the best part simply because she sings something different reminiscent of 'Rich Girl'.
It's really bad monotony, especially since the beginning sets up a really cool sound. Gwen needs to go back to the drawing board if this is what she's going to hand us. She has so much potential.
