Dance the Night Away with 'RuPaul Presents CoverGurlz2'
Drag queens are no strangers to music, and the new cast of RuPaul's Drag Race are ready to slay. Following last year's cast album, the Season 7 queens along with the Pit Crew and judge Michelle Visage have come together to cover some of RuPaul's biggest songs.
While last year's CoverGurlz was largely a mess, this year's release is much more polished and the girls give better performances. There's still a large amount of autotune, but at least this year the girls aren't autotuned within an inch of their lives.
As far as the music goes, Ginger Minj has arguably the best vocal on the album, covering the gorgeous 'Let the Music Play'. Pearl gets sexy with 'Hey Booty' while Jaidynn Diore Fierce belts some big notes on the iconic 'The Beginning'. The Pit Crew live it up big time on 'Hollywood U.S.A.', but it's Katya's rendition of 'Drag U' that makes the biggest splash.
Katya brings out her Russian persona for some of the biggest laughs on the album, and it's only right that her video is also the biggest riot. There's no doubt in my mind that Katya has everything it takes to win this season of Drag Race. MAX's video for 'Dance With U' is one of the most aesthetically pleasing, and the more I see of her the more I cannot wait to see what she pulls out on the show.
Even though we only get to see about thirty seconds to a minute of video for each of the songs, these really show off which queens have the skills necessary to be America's Next Drag Superstar. I'll let you decide for yourself who you think those are.
RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7 premieres March 2nd at 9pm on Logo.
