'American Oxygen' by Rihanna

Rihanna's #R8 is all over the map, and I have no idea what it's going to sound like, but I don't really care. Any time we get new music from our Instagram Queen I can't complain. She's given us folk and a trap banger, and songs for a kid's movie. And she's back with yet another sound.

Yesterday, Beyoncé became the first one to drop an exclusive on Tidal (a song she wrote for her 7th wedding anniversary with Jay-Z), and now Rihanna's done it as well. 'American Oxygen' has been teased for weeks as part of the March Madness promotion, but after she performed the song last night she has released it exclusively on Tidal.

"Every breath I breathe chasing this American dream / We sweat for a nickel and a dime, turn it into an empire," she patriotically sings with a nod to Fox's hit show, Empire (We all know Rihanna is Cookie). The song is moody and dark. It's not your typical show of patriotism, but it's that raw sound that feels so authentic right now.
Rihsus has risen.
