The X Factor USA 2012: Top 8
This week on The X Factor, the Top 8 contestants had to sing #1 hits. This is such a broad theme that the acts really have a great pool of songs to choose from. For the most part all the acts delivered phenomenal performances, with just a couple missing the mark. And what better night that #1's to premiere the music video for will.i.am and Britney's collaboration 'Scream & Shout'? Do I smell another chart-topper for the Queen?
Diamond White
Starting off the night is miss Diamond White. She's doing another Whitney song. It would be nice for her to sing something else, but when she does a great job I could really care less. I don't think these songs are too big for her because she pulls them off with ease, and I really enjoyed this performance. Diamond's a strong contender, but I just hope she gets the votes she deserves.
Vino Alan
Vino completely blew it this week. It was a terrible song choice, and Vino gave a horrid performance. It was his worst by far, and there is no doubt in my mind that he will be going home. Thankfully the judges agreed that it was an atrocity. Finally we can get rid of Vino.
Paige Thomas
She finally delivered THE performance of the competition! This is exactly the type of thing she should be doing. It was a total Rihanna-esque performance, and she nailed it. The vocals were spot on for the first time, and the staging only enhanced the performance. This is what I've been waiting for from day one for Paige to deliver.
Fifth Harmony
Wow! I never knew 'Stronger' was the type of song that could be turned into a girl group track, but they smashed it. I think this is my favorite performance of theirs by far. The girls were on fire vocally, and they gave a very entertaining performance. Kelly would be proud! L.A.'s critiques about not hearing harmony is really starting to get annoying. They sound great so leave them alone.
Carly Rose Sonenclar
Carly Rose bringing the house down once again! Taking on Adele's biggest hit is a risk, but Carly completely reinterpreted it and made it sound fresh and new. I'm loving this rendition. It's amazing how much soul Carly has in her voice for being so young. I think Britney may have the winner in her category!
Tate Stevens
What can I even say about him anymore? For the billionth time he comes out here and produces a flawless vocal performance. I can see him winning awards at the CMAs in the future. He's outstanding once again.
Cece Frey
Oh lawd, she's doing 'Lady Marmalade'. First of all, I don't think that's a song you should ever cover, and then it's an Xtina track, and I hate to break it to you Cece but you've got a mediocre voice that could never pull this off in a million years. It was an atrocious performance, and I think my jaw dropped in disgust while watching this. I can't believe the judges liked it.
Emblem3
To begin with, you should never perform a song that was in Shrek. I think that's just a good rule of thumb to go by. Completely the wrong song choice. Their vocals were actually pretty good, but the song ruined it for me. I'm tired of them having mediocre performances. I know they have it in them to make good music, but this is not what they should be doing. They are not One Direction, Simon!
Based on the performances, I would put Vino and Cece in the Bottom Two and I'd be more than happy to see either of them go home. Unfortunately, America is crazy and immediately sent home Paige. I knew she would be going home soon, but after that great performance this week I was surprised. And then America swapped Cece with Diamond. Diamond did not deserve to be there at all, and it was clear from when it was announced who was in the bottom that Vino would be going home. Both of their sing-off performances were really good, but Diamond out shined Vino. It's scary seeing Diamond consistently near the bottom despite her being amazing. Overall, though, it was another outstanding week on The X Factor. Next week the acts will each be performing twice, one unplugged song and one chosen by the fans.
