'Black Swan: Why It Gotta Be Black?' by RuPaul's Drag Race

This week's RuPaul's Drag Race was by far my favorite episode of the season, and definitely one of my favorites in the herstory of the show. I've never seen a show quite like this one, and it only goes to show how competitive this show is, and how talented these girls have to be to earn the title of America's Next Drag Superstar. Complete with Travis Wall (choreographer from So You Think You Can Dance?) and Chaz Bono as guest judges, this ballet inspired episode rose above all others. Let's get to it shall we?

Ru even busted out a few moves!
For the mini-challenge this week, the girls had to show off their moves as Ru brought Soul Train to the Drag Race Werk-room. It was hilarious watching the girls bust out their moves, proving how some have got it and some dance like white boys. Jinkx was the clear winner of that challenge, but in order to make teams Ru also chose Coco to be a team captain. Mama Ru then tasked the girls with their main challenge: to create a drag ballet chronicling the life of the original Supermodel of the World, Miss RuPaul Charles. This is probably the most unique challenge that has ever been done on Drag Race, and it's one that's really going to separate the performers between just mediocre and those that really get it. Team Jinkx gets Ru's early career, and Team Coco gets the modern day Ru. This should be interesting...
The girls got to meet with Travis Wall and another choreographer, which was definitely a highlight of the show. It was fun watching the girls trying to learn choreography, especially with Alaska who has no rhythm or dance training whatsoever. It was clear that Alyssa (who is a dance instructor) was going to kill this challenge, but it's interesting that Coco chose her to play the "evil" Ru with her. I think it was a good move, and hopefully them having to work together will repair (to some extent) their relationship. Well, I think it's off to the main challenge now!
Black Swan: Why It Gotta Be Black? is a drag ballet that you'll never forget. This has to be one of the most entertaining things I've ever watched, and the girls really pulled out all the stops. Alaska really impressed me - she did so much better than I had originally thought. I was a little disappointed by Jinkx's Ru, but Ivy Winters as Lady Bunny completely stole the show. This was the first time that I really saw Ivy as a contender. Detox and Honey's performance was shockingly bad. Detox tried to keep it moving, and if it weren't for her this would have been atrocious. Honey was a terrible Diana Ross and messed up the choreography. She left Detox to her own devices. As for the second group, they did pretty well. Coco and Alyssa's "Good Ru, Bad Ru" routine was the highlight of the performance. Alyssa absolutely killed this challenge. Jade did pretty well as Ru, when he was a child, but Lineysha's Diana Ross was atrocious. It also didn't help that Lineysha had no idea who Diana Ross was... Roxxxy and Vivienne as Drag Race Ru and America's Next Drag Superstar were a weak way to end the ballet. They both didn't hold their characters, and it fell flat. Since the ballet took up so much time, the runway was cut down to basically nothing which is a shame because I think this was the first week that almost everyone had their best looks.

And now it's time to view the main stage looks...

Alaska
I don't think this was Alaska's best look, but it was entertaining and totally her. I thought it was fun and kooky, and obviously it was enough to make her safe.

Jade Jolie
This look is phenomenal, and no matter how weak Jade may be in the challenges or how much she annoys the other contestants, she consistently brings her best to the stage. I think she'll definitely make Top 5 if she keeps this up.

Lineysha Sparx
It's a beautiful look for Lineysha, but it's becoming apparent that looks are all she's got. She's had one fantastic week so far, so she may be going home very soon. She doesn't seem to be a fierce competitor, and I don't see any drive from her.

Jinkx Monsoon
This is by far my favorite look of the night. It's like a one-eyed GaGa S&M dominatrix, mixed with the crazy personality of Jinkx. It's a one of a kind, just like the queen herself. I'm really rooting for Jinkx, and she may be the most successful comedy queen in the history of the show.

Ivy Winters
This is the first week that I've actually seen Ivy as a real competitor. Her Lady Bunny was one of the best, and this runway look is the best look she has showed us yet. Everything about it is just spot on, and she's a polished contestant.

Alyssa Edwards
I really liked this outfit except for the bottom half. If she had done something else with the bottom it could have been phenomenal. It's another sickening look from Alyssa, and she really knows how to turn it out.

Coco Montrese
Before the show started I could have cared less about Coco, and then the first two weeks of the show she became one of my favorites and I was rooting for her, and now I could care less. She's sort of given up, and she just isn't delivering anything interesting anymore. The runway look this week is very bland.

Detox
You know I live for my girl Detox, and this week she gave it to me. I love everything about this look. The hair is what really seals the deal, but I love the dress because it's so different and such an interesting shape. Detox is a fierce competitor, and it shows.

Roxxxy Andrews
Roxxxy lost me a bit this week which is a shame because she's in my Top 3, but I love this dress. It looks amazing on her and I think she actually looks sexy. However, the make-up is driving me crazy because it's the same every week. Change it up, Roxxxy!

Honey Mahogany
I just don't understand. Why are you going to wear the same thing every week? Honey's got a great body, but she covers it in a sheet each week. We have seen the same look basically four times now. Where's the intrigue?

Vivienne Pinay
Vivienne is sickening, we get it. She really wanted to redeem herself this week, and instead she threw on another sexy but average outfit. She simply becomes a woman every week instead of being a drag queen entertainer. She was weak all around this week and deserves to go home.
Unsurprisingly, Alyssa won the challenge and Vivienne and Honey were both in the Bottom Two. They got to lipsync to the incomparable Britney Spears, and it was a travesty. You thought the Week 1 lipsync was bad? Well this just took the cake as the worst lip sync in all of Drag Race herstory. It was so bad they both deserved to go home. And what did Ru did? She sent BOTH Vivienne and Honey packing. Yep, the show's first ever double elimination happened and it could not have been put to better use. I predicted from the beginning that this was gonna happen, and I'm just glad Ru was sensible and used it to get rid of the fodder.
In this week's Untucked, the special surprise is a video message from last year's winner and boyfriend of Alaska, Sharon Needles! It was of course annoyingly "spooky," but more importantly it was so sweet to see. You can tell they really care about each other. Basically, the whole episode was a Jade hate fest. It was rather stupid as Jade doesn't seem to be as bad as everyone is making her out to be. And let's be honest, they see her as a threat. She's got it all, and I know she's going to turn it out week after week. It was just all uncalled for. Once again it was a pretty anti-climactic episode of Untucked. Next week, however, is everyone's favorite episode: Snatch Game!
