'Let Me Down Gently' by La Roux

I was beginning to think La Roux was a thing of the past. The British synth pop group achieved massive success with their debut single 'Bulletproof' back in 2009, but since then they haven't really made headlines. They released some new material at live shows a year ago but nothing ever came of it. Until now.

La Roux have toned down their massive pop hooks with something a bit more subdued with the release of 'Let Me Down Gently'. The front half of the song is pretty mellow and slow-burning but then there's a few sceonds of silence as the song just stops. And then the song blasts back populated with organs and synths that give the song a bit more pizazz.

Elly Jackson's vocals are gorgeous on the record, singing sweetly over the beat but with a sense of urgency that penetrates the soul. The song is a synth record that fits in nicely with the CHVRCHES artists of this new era of pop, and La Roux have slid right back in where they belong.

'Let Me Down Gently' is the first single off their upcoming sophomore album Trouble In Paradise due out July 7th.
